Eastern and Western Canada by Rail

Eastern & Western Canada by Rail

Truly, the finest way to see Eastern and Western Canada is by rail, from the comfort of a train.  Long distance trains on VIA Rail travel across Canada are complete with sleeper service, dining, lounge, and dome cars.  Start in British Columbia, end in Nova Scotia and along the way stay in Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and New Brunswick.  As these trains operate all year round you can experience all of the seasonal splendor that a Canadian rail vacation has to offer!

If you love the majesty of soaring mountains then you can take advantage of three unique, seasonal rail route packages from Rocky Mountaineer.  Enjoy the views of beautiful Canadian Rockies of British Columbia and Alberta on one of three routes from Rocky Mountaineer, offered on a seasonal basis.  The first route from Vancouver to Jasper features Mt. Robson, the most prominent peak of the North American Rocky Mountain range and the highest point in the Canadian Rockies.  The second route runs from Vancouver to Banff and offers a trip through the engineering marvel that is the Spiral Tunnels, an experience for train buffs that is not to be missed! The third travels between Whistler and Jasper which has scenery dramatically different from the other routes where you will find yourself starting out in one of North America’s rainforests and passing through a landscape that played a major role in the gold rush.  Lastly, the route from Vancouver to Whistler offers views of Howe Sound, Cheakamus Canyon and the Brandywine Falls

Rocky Mountaineer offers two classes of service: GoldLeaf and SilverLeaf.

Whistler Mountaineer offers: GoldLeaf and SilverLeaf.

Before or after a rail tour include an Alaska inside passage or a New England/Canadian Maritime cruise with Holland America.   The inside passage cruises are round-trip from Vancouver and include these ports of call: Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan along with Tracy Arm and Glacier Bay scenic cruising.  The New England/Maritime cruise sails from Boston to Montreal. The ship stops at Bar Harbor Maine, Halifax and Sydney Nova Scotia, Charlottetown Prince Edward Island, and Quebec City Quebec.

For those who like to experience up close with Polar Bears, Beluga Whales, or Northern Lights, a trip to Churchill Manitoba, the capital of all three, is THE place!  The best time to see Polar Bears is the middle of September through the middle of November.  Your Tundra Buggy will bring you up close to these creatures and one may just come to check out the buggy as you are checking them out.  Beluga Whales are plentiful and playful in the summer and love to put on a show so have your cameras, camcorders and smartphones ready!  For a view of one of nature’s most amazing phenomena, be sure set aside time to view the Northern Lights as they crackle and shine during the winter.
